Recording in Serrekunda,The Gambia in 2002/2003.
Simon helped set up a community recording studio in the Gambia and also helped record some great musicians and bands. The location recordings of the tribal music of the Fulla, Serer, Mandinke, Serehully, Wollof, Jolla are all in the British National Sound Archive Library.
Some of the recordings can also be heard on the new Earthdance cd! Simon returned to the Gambia to record and gig with the Joka Band in January 2006 and will be recording a new album and touring in the U.K with Joka in September/
November 2006.I will be posting up a gallery of the photos from Gambia/Senegal very soon and have made a documentary about the griot musicians of Africa which will be available soon. Simon plans to do some Earthdance gigs
in the Gambia in Dec/Jan 2007 and some more filming and recording.Thanks go to Musa Mboob and his family.
